Seems like yesterday I was working with James Barber. Even though ‘working’ usually meant teaching him how to use the latest gadget he just bought. I have some great memories from The Urban Peasant and James as a person.

I was introduced to the Urban Peasant cooking show by my university roommate. He’d rush home every day to watch the Urban Peasant. If a single guy only needed a frying pan to make something that could impress a girl, well you can’t beat that.

James was one of Canada’s most beloved TV cooks. His show was on CBC for 10 seasons, and broadcast in multiple languages around the world. Even now, re-runs still air in the States on ION Life.

James was one of the first guests on Connected Life and was a close friend and supporter of the show. So we were, like all of Canada, deeply saddened when he passed on in 2007.

But today we get to relaunch James Barber.com with a new look, new features, and a lot planned for the future.

We built this site to bring a new audience to James’ show–we’ll be relaunching web-friendly segments over the next months–and to honour his memory with a site that reflects his spirit. He loved all forms of technology, and would have been thrilled with this site.

So please welcome (back) to the Internet: The Urban Peasant.
